Particulele α şi β şi radiaţia γ sunt dăunătoare sănătăţii. Ele poartă o energie capabilă să provoace ionizări. Când radiaţia pătrunde în materie, creează în interiorul ei perechi de ioni. Ca atare, ea se mai numeşte şi radiaţie ionizantă. Prin ionizare, unii electroni sunt îndepărtaţi din învelişurile electronice în care se găseau. Pierzându-şi o parte din sarcina negativă, atomii nu mai sunt neutri. Făcându-se simţită sarcina protonilor excedentari, ei devin ioni pozitivi. Aceşti ioni (împreună cu electronii eliberaţi) determină modificări chimice în celulele organismului şi afectează structura cromozomilor. Drept urmare, se pot produce îmbolnăviri canceroase şi modificări genetice. Iradierea radioactivă nu-şi face simţiţă prezenţa prin nicio senzaţie de durere, iar îmbolnăvirile apar, în general, mult mai tîrziu. În consecinţă, se recomandă evitarea oricărei expuneri conştiente la radiaţii. Radioactivitatea nu poate fi total exclusă din existenţa noastră. Alpha and beta particles and gamma radiation are harmful to health. They carry an energy capable of causing ionisation. When radiation penetrates matter, it creates a pair of ions in its interior. The reader of the TAR should have a very clear view of the financial situation of the company, without having to refer to the submitted documentation.
