About me
Dear potential clients, in order to avoid waste of your and my time, please be so kind as to read the following 12 points. Thank you very much in advance.

1. My rates are negotiable on a case by case basis, the lowest acceptable rate is EUR 0.06 per source word for translation and backtranslation, EUR 0.03 per target word for editing/reviewing, and EUR 20 per hour for proofreading. The minimum charge for a small volume assignment (less than 250 words) is EUR 15. No "best rates" please. As I use only licensed software and pay taxes as a self-employed translator, have MA in English and German philology and 20+ years experience in translation and editing, agencies with "limited budgets" interested in cheapness instead of quality are not welcomed.
2. My payment terms are negotiable on a case by case basis but no longer than NET 45 days. In case of delayed payment, I reserve the right to charge the client with all interests for default to the amount of the respective rate of interest.
3. I use only standard official terminology sources and official glossaries, as well as style manuals. I accept only assignments that I have the knowledge, resources and time to do well. I am able to organize my workflow and to cope with tight deadlines.
4. Data security and confidentiality: I do not trade in my clients translation memories. I do not disclose my clients' names or project titles except in cases of non-payment. I have a reputable antivirus program installed and save all my files and folders on a paid professional password-protected cloud backup server; therefore, no file loss is possible. Upon demand, I delete all relevant files after a project completion. I do not share my computer with anybody. I do not make any hard copies of my clients' files.
5. My preferred CAT tool is MemoQ2015. Moreover, I can work with MateCat, Memsource, TRADOS, Transit, and NXT files, TMs, and glossaries. No mandatory online client-specific complicated CATs please. I perform quality assurance via MemoQ 2015 QA and Verifika. I am a proficient user of Windows 10, Office 2016, and I know how to edit HTML files online and in Windows10. Before delivery, I proofread and edit all texts translated by me as well as perform a quality assurance process. I can translate appr. 3000 source words per working day and edit appr. 1000 words per hour.
6. I do not participate in any tenders with unknown agencies and do not submit any Europass CVs.
7. I do not submit any customer references, please feel free to see client feedback in my profile instead.
8. I do not take on any free of charge test translations, please feel free to see my portfolio instead or find Maija Cirule via Google to see references to appr. 30 fiction books translated by me.
9. For business correspondence, I use only the email address with the domain name "btv.lv", no gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc. I do not consider any cooperation offers sent from any "free" email address.
10. Complaints about quality of a submitted translation shall only be taken into consideration if they are received in writing within fourteen days from delivery of the completed work. After this period, all work delivered by me shall be considered as satisfactory.
11. My credentials, taxpayer information, and detailed personal information, including my postal address and phone number, are available upon substantiated request (ONLY in case of a real assignment certified by PO instead of pool-expanding or personal data obtaining purposes).
12. My preferred business communication language is English.

I am a bilingual Latvian and Russian speaking person, self-employed (freelance)translator, evaluator/editor/proofreader, back-translator (Latvian to English and vice versa), and website localizator from English/German/Russian to Latvian and from Latvian, German and Russian to English with a M.A. degree in linguistics (English and German philology) from the University of Latvia, more than 20-years experience in translation and editing, including 10 years as an in-house translator at a major Riga translation agency, "R&V" and more than 10-years experience in editing/proofreading of Latvian, Russian, German, and English technical and medical texts as an in-house editor at a major Riga publishing house, "Zvaigzne". I have a near-native command of English (have studied English literature, grammar, and stylistics for 5 years, have been engaged as a tour guide for English-speaking groups for 15 years) and good working knowledge of German (minor subject at the University).
After high school and before university, I completed two-year courses in emergency nursing and have been engaged as a part-time emergency nurse at a major Riga hospital Emergency department for 5 years.
