Le Français dort comme un loir, a une faim de loup, un œil de lynx, une vie de chien. Pour être toujours prêt à se faire aussi gros qu'un bœuf ou à passer par un trou de souris, il lui faut être rusé comme un renard. Quoique l'amour, dont il fait souvent son cheval de bataille, le rende gai comme un pinson et léger comme une plume, il n'aime pas faire le pied de grue et rester comme l'oiseau sur la branche. Si donc on lui pose trop de lapins, surtout par un froid de canard, il aura vite la puce à l'oreille et loin de ménager la chèvre et le chou, n'hésitera pas à prendre le mors aux dents et les taureau par les cornes: il sait parfois faire l'âne pour avoir du son, mais on ne lui fait pas avaler les couleuvres. Il a d'autres chats à fouetter. Il en tombera peut-être malade comme une chien, au point d'en avoir une fièvre de cheval, mais il saura rester, sur ses mésaventures, muet comme une carpe, car, s'il est parfois bavard comme une pied, il sait aussi mettre un bœuf sur sa langue. El francés duerme como una piedra, come como un caballo, vive como un perro y no se le va una. Es un pillo: lo mismo es la estrella del show que el portero del teatro. Aunque el amor, del cual hace a menudo su caballo de batalla, lo pone feliz como una lombriz y a flotar por las nubes, no es hombre de quedarse con los brazos cruzados y dejarse llevar. Si lo dejan embarcado, sobre todo por un frío que pele, comenzará a dudar y lejos de quedarse momia'o, no lo pensará dos veces para tomar las riendas y coger al toro por los cuernos. Cuando le conviene, sabe hacerse el muerto para ver el entierro que le hacen, pero no es un aguantón porque enseguida desmaya la talla y se pone pa' otra cosa. Sufre sus desgracias como un hombrecito y aunque se esté muriendo, se comporta elegante y no abre la boca ni para decir "jí", porque aunque le gusta hablar como una cotorra, también sabe tragarse la lengua.
