I am a 56 year old translator/editor with 20 years experience. I originally entered translation through a post-graduate research project in which I was involved.

Although my first degree is in general Psychology, I became extremely interested in psycholinguistics and language aquisition. A subsequent Ma course in Film and Television provided me with an understanding of semiotics/semiology and structuralism in a broader sense, while giving me the tools to explore further my interest in socio-linguistics and folk myth.

When I finally decided to become a full-time translator, I studied for and was awarded the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation.

As a translator I am firmly committed to such initiatives as the European Terminology Database and strive to remain informed on issues regarding translation, especially within the context of the European Union. Furthermore, my experience with creative writing (magazine articles and advertising copy), although sporadic,has contributed greatly to the readability of my translations, a factor that I believe to be essential but frequently lacking in translated texts. My work with a certain renowned artist and contemporary Balearic writers over the years, has also sharpened my ability to "transpose" an authorial voice into the target language.

Living as I do, between Spain and the UK, I am able to keep abreast of and assimilate linguistic trends, and to approach each project informed by an up to date and relevant social/linguistic awareness with respect to the three languages within which I work.
