In the human kidney, wastes diffuse through the capillary walls. In hemodialysis, waste molecules diffuse through the dialyzer membrane. Blood and dialysate flow past each other separated by the dialyzer membrane. This thin, semipermeable membrane lets only certain molecules pass through, based on their size. Waste molecules move across the membrane by difussion and into the dialysate while other molecules remain in the blood.
The dialisate, a solution of salts similar to normal blood, flows past the membrane very quickly, so that used dialysate is rapidly replaced by fresh. The concentration of waste metabolites in the blood decreases during dialysis as they diffuse from the blood into the fresh dialysate.
Excess water in the blood is removed through ultrafiltration. In the human kidney, the blood in the capillaries is under higher pressure than the fluid around the capillaries, and water is pushed through the capillary walls. In an artificial kidney, water molecules in the blood pass through the dialyzer membrane and into the dialysate as long as the dialysate pressure is kept lower than the blood pressure. The flows and pressures on both sides of the dialyzer must be carefully controlled.

1. DESCRIPTION OF SWITCHED SERVICES AND RATES
1A. Basic Service
Seller shall provide Switched Service to Buyer during the term of this Agreement. The Seller provides these services on a non-exclusive basis to the Buyer. The Switched Services and any other telecommunications services provided by Seller under this Agreement shall be provided in accordance with the filings of the various carriers under Tariff F.C.C. No. 1, as it may be amended from time to time (the "Tariff"), and all terms and conditions of the Tariff are hereby incorporated into this Agreement as if fully set forth herein; provided, however, that in the event of any conflict between this Agreement and the Tariff, the provisions of this Agreement shall prevail.
1B. Rates
The Switched Services shall be provided at the rates set forth in Schedule A. All international calls completed by Seller for Buyer shall be billed at a minimum call duration of thirty (30) seconds, and in six-second increments thereafter.
