WOMEN AND WORK—THE CAPABILITIES APPROACH (...)THE CAPABILITIES APPROACH
A reasonable answer to all these concerns — capable of giving good guidance to government establishing basic constitutional principles and to international agencies assessing the quality of life — is given by a version of the capabilities approach — an approach to quality of life assessment pioneered within economics by Amartya Sen, and by now highly influential through the Human Development Reports of the UNDP. My own version of this approach is in several ways different from Sen’s; I shall simply lay out my view as I would currently defend it.

Uma resposta razoável a todas essas questões — capaz de fornecer uma boa orientação aos governos para o estabelecimento de princípios constitucionais básicos, bem como a organismos internacionais no processo de avaliação de parâmetros de qualidade de vida — está sendo fornecida por uma versão da abordagem das capacidades — uma abordagem sobre a forma de avaliação da qualidade de vida, introduzida inicialmente na área econômica por Amartya Sen, e que exerce atualmente grande influência por conta dos Relatórios de Desenvolvimento Humano do PNUD. Minha versão pessoal desta abordagem difere da de Sen em diversos aspectos; irei simplesmente expor minha visão como normalmente a defenderia.
