Perform log quality control on the gamma ray output curve. Ensure that the response is in agreement with that expected for the formations being logged. Have on hand logs from nearby wells if available.
Compare the repeat section with the main run. Verify good agreement between the two runs, allowing for statistical variations.
The basic gamma ray log is useful in distinguishing permeable zones because radioactive elements can be highly concentrated in shales, are impermeable, and are much less concentrated in sandstones and carbonates, which are generally permeable. The gamma ray log may also be used for lithology identification and for depth correlation to previous logging runs.
Erratic tool movement can be identified by the Z-Axis Accelerometer, normally printed in the depth track. Record ACCZ on a meaningful scale to get an indication of the quality of tool motion. If the tool motion is bad; i.e., sticking and high ACCZ activity; logging speed, standoff configuration, centralizer configuration, or caliper arm pressure may need to be adjusted.

About me Bio Just a couple of words on how I got into the translation business: I started out as a translator and interpreter at the European Youth Conference in 1995, while being a second-year student majoring in linguistics. On graduating from the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University in 1999, I joined a large oil pipeline construction project (its power supply and telecom segments). I had translated equipment manuals, engineering materials, contract-specific documents, and project press releases, as well as interpreting on-site construction activities and weekly meetings for 8 years. Therefore, my skills in the main work areas (i.e. IT, Telecom, and Marketing) got sandblasted with sands of time :-) Some years ago I made up my mind to switch over to freelance. Today, I run my translation business as a private entrepreneur (a member of the American Translators Association), and provide services in compliance with existing Russian regulations.
