Health, medical and dental care
In Sweden the state govern the health services based on the health care law. The goal is good health and care on equal terms for the entire population. The county council makes sure everyone has access to good health care through health centers and hospitals. Municipalities are responsible for the elderly care.
Medical care in Sweden is financed by the county tax, which is part of the income tax, and user charges. There are also private health care providers in Sweden.
Vårdcentralen (Health Center)
When you need care, call Vårdcentralen first. You will find a Vårdcentral where you live or nearby. You find the phone number in the phone book or at www.lvn.se
When you call Vårdcentralen the clinic reception nurse assesses the type of care you need. You can also get self-care advice. If the clinic decides that you need to see a specialist he or she writes a referral to the hospital.
