This guide is designed to answer some of the questions you might have about resettlement and the UK. You may have questions that this guide has not answered. If you do still have questions, you should ask your project worker in your resettlement area who may be able to help you further.
If you have any special needs that should be considered when you arrive in the UK (for example, if you need crutches or if you have health problems) you should speak to an International Rescue Committee adviser. These needs may already be accounted for, but the advisers will ensure that people in the UK know about them.
Resettlement is a long and sometimes difficult process. It might be easier if you follow the advice of refugees who have travelled to the UK before you:
• Keep an open mind.
• Do not rush to make judgements.
• Make every effort to learn and speak English.
• Try to understand UK society without being too critical.
• Try and participate in your community.
• Concentrate on how far you have come, not how far you have to go.
