About me
My first career was English teaching and I have always loved to read and write. After about 25 years as a textile conservator and tutor/trainer, a sea change returns me to language as a main occupation.

Having worked in institutions, served on executive committees and successfully run my own business, my work approach is businesslike and flexible; team worker or independent. Through my teaching and article writing I have gained much experience in academic and technical writing. Not only can I be precise and technical but also creative, lyrical and literary. My reading comprehension is very good, writing skills strong. Translation fits nicely.

My underlying credo is best described as follows:
'Information in itself has no inherent value. It only has value when it becomes accessible' (my source; the Conservation Information Network). I am particularly interested in making written sources more accessible to the cultural heritage body of knowledge through translation and (re)publishing neglected primary technical sources. Determining correct terminology is an important aspect.

Now, in 2015, after 10 years of experience I revel in this work. Although specialised in the visual arts and cultural heritage fields my range is broader; general, tourism, food & cooking, sustainability, humour. Challenges are a great pleasure: bring on the weird, tricky, subtle and quirky stuff!

Dr. Anna Buelow, The National Archives UK;
"I have worked with Jennifer Barnett on several occasions over the last years. Typically, I have asked Jennifer to edit English abstracts or full texts for publication on behalf of the International Association of Books and Paper Conservators (IADA). I found Jennifer to be very quick to reply and able to work to some very tight deadlines. I have particularly appreciated her attention to specialised vocabulary in the conservation profession."
