Stokes presenta diversos tipus d’inestabilitats.
tradicionalment anomenades subescales.
| Translation - English In this article we will introduce two subjects that traditionally have been studied independently but for which a possible link has been set out: the mathematical description of turbulence in problems related to fluid mechanics and the numerical instabilities that can be observed when the equations that regulate the phenomenon are approximated by a numerical method.
The turbulence in fluids is, without a shadow of a doubt, an open issue in classic Physics. Despite the fact that Navier-Stokes equations in fluid mechanics are accepted as a mathematical model, an exhaustive theorem about existence and singleness of solutions for the evolution problem is still unknown. What we know (thanks to an abundant numerical experience and several partial analytic results) is that they admit “chaotic” solutions. The problem from a Physics point of view, is to keep track of these solutions, calculating (or fitting) their statistical parameters, or evaluating their qualitative behavior. From a numerical point of view, the approximation of Navier-Stokes equations shows several types of instabilities. Practically the only term on which a numerical control can be applied is the viscous one, and if this term is small compared to the convective one (or the rotary one, if there is any), the numerical solution is dissatisfactory.
In the past years two parallel paths of research have been followed in the development of mathematical models of turbulence and numerical approximation which have a common root, this indicating that the two paths might become one. On one side the models known as “large eddy simulation” (LES) are based on separating the unknown quantity (velocity) in a macroscopic scale and in a microscopic scale, to obtain an equation only for the former, but keeping in mind the effects of microscopic scales, traditionally called “subscales”.

Math is the common denominator of reality. Everything is math, and math is my passion. Translating is math as well: when applying rigorous and strict mathematical steps a translator can achieve the best results. I speak Castellano (Spanish) Catalan and Italian (all of them mothertongue). I took several certifications as far as the English language is concerned: First Certificate, CPE (Proficiency), TOEFL (270/300), GRE (Graduate Record Examination, after my degree, with top scores). I have over 16 years of experience in translating confidential (mostly business confidential) and scientific texts. I worked for the "New York Times" in the culinary field. My passion for cuisine allowed me to deepen my specific knowledge with attention to detail, allowing me to become a restaurant manager for a top notch establishment for several years. This experience "on the field" is fundamental when it comes to translations in the specific jargon.
After having met the perfect partner, I have become a very fortunate Wife and Mom. I am determined and happy to pursue my professional career as a freelance translator.
