При этом для многих иммигрантов потеря русского языка означает необратимую потерю самоидентификации.
Другим фактором, который, возможно, определяет ориентацию на родную культуру и сохранение родного языка является то, что большая часть старшего
поколения не знает никакого другого языка, кроме русского, и поэтому стремится, чтобы этот язык был сохранён последующими поколениями как средство коммуникации с родственниками - монолигвами.

Language is the first and foremost cultural property of the Russian-speaking community. Israeli researchers contend that new immigrants strive to preserve their language and culture because they perceive their culture and, consequently, their language as something of greater value than Israeli culture, which in the opinion of many new immigrants is inferior to real European culture. Many immigrants believe that the loss of the Russian language will result in irreparable loss of self-identification.
There is another factor that is likely to contribute to the fact that new immigrants strive to preserve their language and culture: Russian is the only language that the majority of the elderly generation speaks, and preserving the language for the following generations is preserving the means of communication with monolingual relatives.
