I lati della navata centrale al di sopra del transetto, su cui poggiano le colonne, sono completamente rivestiti di mosaici che narrano la storia sacra. Essi sono organizzati in 36 riquadri, al di sotto delle finestre, quasi come se fossero appesi a delle cornici. Sul lato destro può osservare le "storie di Mosè e Giosuè", a sinistra invece "le storie di Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe". Osservate come la decorazione musiva risulta completamente integrata nella progettazione dello spazio complessivo, non più quindi un elemento accessorio: notate come l'occhio sia naturalmente guidato verso l'arco trionfale e l'abside. Nell'arco trionfale si narrano le storie dell'infanzia di Gesù, sottolineandone il ruolo svolto dalla Vergine. | Translation - Dutch
De zijkanten van het middenschip, boven het dwarsschip waarop de zuilen rusten, zijn volledig overdekt met mozaïeken met afbeeldingen uit de Heilige Schrift.
Deze mozaïeken zijn in 36 panelen onderverdeeld en bevinden zich onderaan de vensters, als opgehangen lijsten. Aan de rechterzijde kan je de “verhalen van Mozes en Jozua” lezen, en aan de linkerzijde de “verhalen van Abraham, Isaac en Jacob”.
Let ook hoe de mozaïsche versiering functioneel is geïntegreerd in de compositie van de gehele ruimte, ze is duidelijk méér dan een louter decoratief element: merk ook hoe het oog op natuurlijke wijze naar de triomfboog en de apsis geleid wordt.
