| Translation - English Pre-hispanic Andean agriculture was based on original crops, such as potatoes, oca (indigneous tuber), yucca and tomato as well as animals like camelids and guinea pigs. The Spanish conquest was the first big technological change imposed on the Andean region. New species of vegetables were introduced, such as fava bean and rice, and also animals like sheep, goats, pigs and cattle. As in any process of change, this had negative and positive consequences. Sheep and cows largely replaced camelid husbandry in the Altiplano, thus causing the disappearance of part of the fauna of the natural grasslands. Nevertheless, today these animal species are incorporated into the way of life of the majority of Andean families. | More Less | | Years of translation experience: 6.
