The United States is also a heavy consumer of natural resources, and it is increasingly reliant on certain imports, especially on oil. Japan, a highly industrialized nation, is very dependent and has to import 99 percent of its primary commodities. Western Europe produces nearly all the grain it needs but lacks other commodities to a great extent. The United States, Canada, Japan, and Western Europe all have to import tropical agricultural products from the developing nations.
