Prestigiacomo, punto svolta dopo colloqui con Usa
ROMA - Ci sono le condizioni perché il G8 Ambiente di Siracusa, dal 22 al 24 aprile, "segni un punto di svolta per l'ambiente. Le recenti aperture del presidente Obama, che pongono le premesse per un accordo sui cambiamenti climatici che sia realmente condiviso, sono state infatti confermate dall'approccio costruttivo che l'amministrazione americana ha tenuto durante i nostri colloqui". Lo ha detto il ministro dell'Ambiente Stefania Prestigiacomo, a conclusione della due giorni di colloqui bilaterali che una delegazione del ministero dell'Ambiente ha svolto con i rappresentanti dell'amministrazione americana tenutasi a Washington.
“Nel corso degli incontri - ha proseguito il ministro dell'Ambiente - e' emersa chiaramente la volonta' dell'amministrazione Obama di procedere in maniera spedita sulla strada della Green Economy, seguendo in questo modo il percorso che l'Europa ha gia' iniziato da tempo''. ''Insieme a questo - ha continuato Prestigiacomo - bisogna sottolineare inoltre, e si tratta forse della questione piu' importante, che sul tema della tutela e della valorizzazione della biodiversita', uno dei temi portanti del G8 Ambiente, sono convinta che a Siracusa arriveremo ad un documento condiviso che fissi le priorita' in materia per il lavoro da svolgere nei prossimi anni. ROME – The pre-conditions have been put in place for the G8 Environment Meeting being held in Syracuse (Sicily) from 22 to 24 April to “mark a turning-point for the environment. The recent willingness shown by President Obama, which in itself creates the basis for a meeting of minds over climate change, has been confirmed by the constructive attitude adopted by the US administration during talks held with us”. This thumbs up came from Italian environment minister, Stefania Prestigiacomo, speaking at the conclusion of two days of bilateral talks held in Washington between US administration representatives and a delegation from Italy’s Ministry of the Environment.
''Over the past few days,” the minister continued, “we have witnessed the emergence of an unmistakable willingness on the part of the Obama administration to proceed expeditiously along the road towards a green economy, thus following a route Europe started on some time ago”.”Along with this,” Ms Prestigiacomo continued, “an additional point needs to be stressed, concerning perhaps the most important issue of all: namely the question of how we should set about assessing biodiversity – one of the structural themes of the G8 Environment Meeting. It is my conviction that Syracuse will produce a joint document fixing benchmark priorities on this issue, priorities to be developed over the coming years. We could call it the ‘Syracuse Charter on Biodiversity’”.
The G8 Environment Meeting will take place in Syracuse from April 22-24. It is preceded by the forum on “Low Carbon Technologies” being held in Trieste on April 3 and 4. |
