The chance to obtain an insight into the complex and unique ageing process of the Jerez region and improve, recycle or initiate your translation skills regarding wine related texts.
from Vine to Bottle
September is the month of the grape harvest in Andalucia, the time when the sunbaked white albariza soil of the vineyards surrenders up its golden Palomino grapes, giving us the chance to witness first hand the whole production process behind this world famous wine as the grapes are picked and pressed in order to obtain the first delicate musts which then enter the unique Solera and Criaderas ageing process which characterises sherry and the lesser known Brandy de Jerez.
Proposed schedule:
Thursday, September 3rd
9.30pm Welcome Dinner
La Carboná restaurant, located inside an old sherry warehouse and member of the official Ruta de los Vinos y Brandy de Jerez, will be the venue for our welcome dinner where the owner, Javier, will explain how each different type of sherry can be paired with specific dishes to produce the perfect maridaje.
Friday, September 4th
10:00 a Taste of Sherry
A tasting course run by the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Regulating Council at the Casa del Vino. Here we shall have the chance to discover the oenological characteristics and differences of the different types of sherry produced in the Jerez Region.
The Vineyard

Saturday September 5th
10.30 - 13.30 Winewords Workshop
Bodegas Tradición is the venue for this workshop which will focus upon wine terms in both Spanish in English including the difficulties which can arise for the translator. Ideal both for those who wish to add oenology to their skills portfolio and for those who wish to recycle their generic skills whilst at the same time learning those terms specific to Sherry and Brandy de Jerez. Coffee break included
The translation session will be followed by a guided tour of Bodegas Tradición and their VORS (Very Old and Rare Sherries) soleras, including a visit to the family’s private Picture Gallery containing works by Zurburán, Velazquez and Goya, ending with a guided tasting of their sherries.

Free time to relax and stroll around the picturesque town centre of Jerez with its narrow cobbled streets, perhaps stopping to sip a cool glass of fino sherry in one of its many shady squares lined with orange trees and tall palms or pay a visit to the Moorish Alcazar and Camara Oscura.
