The 4th International Conference in Buenos Aires was a resounding success

With about 300 registered visitors from 26 countries and an impressive array of speakers and presentations, the 4th International Conference held in Buenos Aires from Fri 25 to Sun 27 Aug 2006 was a resounding success

Site member Aurora Humarán and her organizing team did a great job, both during the preparation phase and during its execution.

The conference had been called “to promote our profession and understanding of our work, to increase our net of contacts, and to create self-awareness about the importance of our job as linguistic mediators.”

It achieved these objectives and a lot more. The results of our survey show that 45% of respondents found the event overall “excellent”, another 48% found it “very good” and the remaining 7% found it “good”.

Also 91% of the respondents said that they would attend a future conference in Argentina, and 93% said that they would recommend conferences to others. Asked about the importance of this opportunity to network with others in the industry, 57 found it “very important” and a further 36% found it “somewhat important”. brought to Argentina all its staff and we are very grateful to all our members and users who attended our presentations or approached us with their questions and suggestions or just their warm presence, such as the few who told us “ has changed my life”.

Four of our sponsors had a presence in the event: Wordfinder, Torre de Papel, Lingotek and Ediciones de la Flor, and 93% of the respondents visited their booths and 70% considered that the access to the sponsor's products was an important benefit of having attended the event.

The conference was complemented by a great gala dinner and by the largest powwow ever held, with 181 proZians who networked, danced and had a great time, very much following the last line of our mission statement "have more fun".

Our heartfelt thanks once again to Aurora and her team, to our sponsors and to those who participated in the event and helped turn it into a great event.

"Thanks to the staff of the ATA for honoring the wishes of ATA members who will be in attendance!"

The international conference recently has been approved for ATA credits. Therefore, if an ATA-certified member attends the whole conference he or she may earn 10 CE points (the most you can earn for one event).  If an ATA-certified member only attends for one day, he or she may only earn 1 point per hour of educational session.

It is my great honor and privilege to invite you to experience the first ever conference in the Americas, " Conference - Buenos Aires 2006", to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from August 25 to August 27, 2006. This Conference aims to promote our profession and understanding of our work, to increase our net of contacts, and to create self-awareness about the importance of our job as linguistic mediators. Registering as soon as possible will give you the best opportunity to attend and participate in interesting lectures and workshops presented by those who share our pasion: languages and culture, and the need to be true communicators and builders of bridges between cultures and idiosyncrasies.

Buenos Aires is a beautiful, modern, safe, and eclectic city with friendly people. The climate for that time of the year (two weeks from the beginning of Spring in the Southern Cone) will be ideal with temperatures ranging from 19 to 7º C. Eating out in Buenos Aires is a real gastronomic adventure. Buenos Aires is also a shopper's paradise. You are most welcome to tour the country after the Conference. We have suggested some excursion circuits and will be happy to assist you if you need something more customized.

Un fuerte abrazo para todos.
