Condense (http://www.condenseapp.com) is a $2.99 OCR app in the Mac App Store that is a nice alternative for ABBYY Screenshot Reader (Windows).

I've tested it with two real-life documents and found that the app is quite easy to use:

Using Condense to scan a high-contrast image

The result was good.

Using Condense to scan a low-contrast image with a pixel font

The result needed some editing.

Another tool that I have used since Windows 95 is Structurise's Kleptomania.
