I recently posted a message here about tax in Spain; this time it\'s the Netherlands. I\'d like to know what taxes and social security contributions a freelancer can expect to pay in the Netherlands, and at what rates. Can anyone tell me the overall tax burden one can expect there (e.g., on turnover of 50,000 euro excluding VAT one can expect to pay a total of xx,xxx euro/xx% in social security contributions and tax).

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Brian

Check www.belastingdienst.nl Jan 6, 2003

You may find an answer to your question at www.belastingdienst.nl. The Dutch tax-authorities also provide information in English. Good luck! Gideon

Info from the Ministry of Finance and the SVB Jan 6, 2003

Hi Brian,

The brochure \"Taxation in the Netherlands\", published by the Dutch Ministry of Finance, gives an overview of the different types of tax levied by the Dutch government together with explanatory notes. The rates and amounts given apply as from 1 January 2002. You will find the brochure in PDF format at http://www.minfin.nl/default.asp?CMS_ITEM=MFCR3713314F5708211D5BFFF00104B3FBE32

For info about our social security system you might want to visit the site of the SVB at http://www.svb.org/index_big_uk.html?envelope=422&folder=m235

Groeten,

Carla

You do not mention if you (want to) live in The Netherlands Jan 7, 2003

If you are living in the UK, or in Spain for that matter, you pay local taxes over what you earn, and charge the local applicable VAT taxes.
