Here's an interesting tip from Lifehacker, about how to facilitate your email communication by signalling that the subject line of the message is, in fact, the whole message: EOM! http://lifehacker.com/5028808/how-eom-makes-your-email-more-efficient Of course, it may not go well with those more verbose types, plenty of which can be found here... I'm the verbose type... | Jul 25, 2008 |
Thanks for the hint. It's always good to learn about new ways of doing things. Unfortunately it will not work in my case, as with my colleagues at the office we have a "post-it" software we use for our job workflow and 80% of my customers actually like to discuss weather, family or pets a little bit every day...

EOM - and a bit more | Jul 26, 2008 |
I read the following article last week and really liked the advice. However, you need to agree with the people you exchange mail with to use this system - otherwise, they will not always understand what you are trying to say. http://blogs.bnet.com/teamwork/?p=305&tag=content;col1 I like the idea of EOM, but in my case, I think it is a tool to learn to write... The simple exercise of trying to craft a message not exceeding 60 characters forces people to choose words more carefully and to be more clear. I am sure that many people can benefit greatly from training on EOM for a little while. You never know when you will be writing headlines and such - the extra practice will come in handy!

Similar tactic for limiting need to reply to SMS | Jul 26, 2008 |
I came up with this acronym with a colleague: NNTR. Yes, that's "No need to reply". EOM
To unaccustomed persons may look rude. EOM | Jul 27, 2008 |

I have used nnto for years | Jul 27, 2008 |
No Need To Open but I only use it with people I knw quite well. An even more efficient way to optimise email is the chat function on skype and other similar programs -it's just quicker if it's just Q & A-type email.

As you can see above. Oh well, so it wasn't EOM after all. I just prefer short concise subject lines and then a proper message in the message body.

Ahh, but there is the curiosity factor which compels us to open the e-mail anyway. Otherwise, viruses and spam would have been a thing of the past. My Outlook is set for message preview in the bottom pane, so I see the whole text of the message (if it's short). That lets me decide if I click on delete or if I read on. Pawel Skalinski
