Hello all,

Im not sure if this is the right forum but I suppose this
can be considered a kind of business issue. I recently
received an Email from an online dictionary/translator service inviting me
to register in their data base, as they are expanding their
services to include human online translators.

Has anyone else been contacted or now if this is another
spam/scam. Below is the content of the Email.

So did I Mar 12, 2009

Good morning (for me!),

I also received that email last week. Not sure if that was a spam, I didn't do anything with it for now. I did click on the link, and it's a Google form that appeared. I thought it was weird that a company doesn't have its own form after being in the business for 50 years. I didn't answer that email yet but I'm also wondering if it's a spam or not.

Not a scam at all Mar 12, 2009

Actually I filled their online document as I don't see anything weired in this regards, and as for Annie's query, I didn't think of it this way.
Beside the data they are collecting in the doc. didn't seem harmful to me at all.
Though I only got one question mark for why they are not asking for detailed information about our fields of experiences and whatsoever?

An old company Mar 12, 2009

This company is a genuine and old organization and have now added their new section of 'online human translation' for which they are expanding their database. They might be planning to shortlist the people who repond because in the end of their mail, they have mentioned :

"As soon as we review your application, we will get back to you with further details such as service and payment terms."

Regards,

Thanks Mar 12, 2009

Thanks for the info, I was a bit hesitant because I've never been directly contacted by an outsource before and it seemed unusual. I thought someone might be using this company as a Phishing lure (no pun intended).

Not scam! Mar 12, 2009

I was suspicious too and deleted the mail.
It turned out that the manager responsible for that campaign is a member of my linkedin group and together with other translators we had and still have a nice chat with her. She explained the details and it looks a legitimate possibility to work for the agency.

Greetings,

I got that e-mail as well and filled out the form. I haven't heard anything back from them, but I'll definitely let everyone know what pans out.

In answer to Luisa Ramos. Truly sorry if I missed out on your email. I rechecked and will try do once more if your email entered any wrong folder by mistake. I would appreciate it very much if you have the time to resend me your email, I guess that will be faster...Thanks!

In answer to Holly Breckenridge: Sorry Holly, I am trying to screen the applications as fast as possible, but it is not easy. I will not be able to give definitive answers by now, still I will send out a general update to all applicants during this week. You got my word for that.

And, big hug to Judith. Thank you ever so much. That's too kind of you.

With best regards,
Dr. Ursula Ron
