Hi, I am an American citizen and I have a question about accepting work from Euorpean translation agencies. What do I need/not need to provide them. For example, they have TVA, we don't so I'm assuming they don't have to charge that to me. Do I have to give them my SSN? Any help would be welcome!

Thanks!

Hi Daniel - I'm a US citizen living in Mexico and I've been translating for European clients, including agencies, for about nine years now and have never had to submit any documents (other than the occasional confidentiality statement). I have had clients in the UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Switzerland and the invoice I send them has an entry that reads: VAT N/A - value added tax, not applicable.

You don't have to provide anything in particular... Mar 17, 2009

Hi Daniel! There's no need to provide your SSN or anything like that, and you don't need to worry about VAT. Just provide a properly formatted invoice with your contact information and bank details for payment. If you have other questions you can message me directly.

Laura

A CV is usually required Mar 17, 2009

A CV is often needed. And they are very efficient and time-saving. If your CV is not what they want, you would not get a reply in most cases.icon_smile.gif

Good luck, Daniel.

Thanks Mar 18, 2009

Thank you James, that is certainly sound advice! But I already passed the CV and testing stages and now we're talking about how I will be paid and they were asking for some tax documents etc.
