Can agencies place their own ratings on the BlueBoard?

This evening I had some spare time that I decided to spend verifying
the real consistency of Blue Board high ratings of my non-paying
Italian agency. They have eight 5 rating (plus my 1).
I made the search by name to identify users giving good rating and
I find out that one was made by the agency's owner, 4 entries belonged
to people with no proz account, only the remaining 3 entries belonged
to real proz members.
I'd like to know if agencies can use the BlueBoard to just praise
themselves and if no proz members can make an entry.

Self-entries are not permitted. Dec 13, 2009

See http://www.proz.com/siterules/blue_board_bb_blueboard/6#6

As per members, everybody registered with ProZ.com has the right to post a BB entry. People with "no ProZ account" are former users with a deleted/removed/terminated profile (names with leading "x" like xxxSurnameName) - or am I missing something here?

So obviously, what you need to do is to submit a support ticket to report the self-praise you mention.

Very helpful Dec 13, 2009

Dear Mr Laurent,

thank you for your prompt reply. Names with no proz account have same appearence of no paying proz members, I didn't see any "x".

Just a point as I misunderstood you: free accounts are held in red, paying accounts in bold blue and corporate accounts in bold purple.

Support request Dec 13, 2009

Thank you Mrs Angio. I just sent my support request with due specification.

Anyway it is still unclear why I was unable to find the names of others users placing their 5 rating just after my bad rating. Their names are in black, and if they were former users why did they come back just to give a nice rating and than left again?

For a new comer like me, this is really a suprise. I once thought BB would be objective, at least as the site's instructions said. Now I think we should think twice before accept a job, even after researching on the BB.
If you have any progress on this, kindly let us know. Thanks again and good luck!

The statements in the initial posting seem to be mere assumptions Dec 31, 2009

Have you seen the other thread Elvira posted?
If you read that, you can see that she did not see the full information (user names) due to her limited access to the BlueBoard, and therefore she was making statements without much factual base.
See the thread here:

So, in general, it is prohibited for outsourcers to "cook" their BB record, and if anyone suspects such thing, a support ticket is in order.

That said, BB records should always be taken with a grain of salt, not all entries should be taken at face value (both positive and negative). Checking the BB should be only one part of the due diligence we perform when engaging in business with new clients.

To become a translator, there is more work need to do than just translation. Whether like it or not, it's what we are facing in today's world.

I agree with Katalin's remark Jan 4, 2010

I agree with Ms. Katalin's remark that not all entries should be taken at face value (both positive and negative).

I think we should start one separate thread to discuss our experiences in this regard.
