I am planning to move to Germany shortly with my partner who has an in-house position there. If I apply for a residence permit is it straightforward for a freelance translator to obtain? Or what will I need to show to obtain one? Does anyone have experience of moving from the UK to Germany as a freelance translator?

Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

Are you a EU citizen? Jan 14, 2004

If you're a UK (therefore EU) citizen, there is no restriction about moving within the Union and you should be able to obtain your local RSI (PPS or whatever's called) number right away, just apply for it (this has been true for me, Italian, when I moved to Ireland).
