What's the procedure for getting clients to sign purchase orders? Do you send it by e-mail? Is an electronic signature valid? If you send it by airmail, what do you do if the deadline is short, i.e. the deadline is before the purchase order will reach the client? Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

Much depends on the legislation May 9, 2004

Ukraine where I'm based doesn't recognize documents in electronic format; that is, all purchase orders are invalid by the legislation of the country I'm in. On the other hand, with many clients (and definitely with refular ones) we have long since stopped botherign about PO's for each assignment - just a project number for future invoicing.

Of course a PO is something to back you up in case of dafault, but with reliable clients a purchase order / contract can be signed even after the job has been delivered and even paid for!

Jan,
I fax my POs and get the client to sign or stamp it and fax it back. So far no trouble.
