Freelancers. I didn't say "regularly make 200k/year" I said 100k and more.
Of course I'm not talking within a year or two of starting in the business. It takes time.

I'd say it's the norm in certain circles and it pretty much boils down to a combination of good rates and regular workload. Often it seems easier to achieve by combining translation work with well-paid interpreting assignments (especially conference interpreting).

Incidentally, that page also lists the average annual income of "interpreters and translators" (averaged together I suppose) as $53,410. I certainly don't know too many high school teachers pulling that kind of salary.


Out of 821 occupations, I guess we're under the radar. Looking on the bright side, I am happy translators are taken into account.


PS: In case you're wondering which occupation tops the list, let me break the news "chief executive".
