Hi, I have my own domain name and I now want to use the email address I created. The problem is I can't work out how to sync my domain name email with my outlook account. Is it easier using a different account? I could create a different account other than outlook if it was easier. Or maybe there's a better solution for receiving my domain name email. Basically I want to receive alerts on my phone for my domain name email and also be able to access it easily and compose messages on my computer. ... I use Thunderbird and receive all my emails @hotmail.com and @traduttrissimo.com.
It's easy to use and free.

I don't have the entire image of your setup, however I have my domain name, and my host includes in the service some (10?) e-mail accounts.
As the address is published on my web site, I get tons of spam there. So I access it only on webmail, where I can bulk-delete all spam, and fwd the worthy messages to my main e-mail address, from where I'll reply.
My site host's e-mail service is extremely weak in catching spam. Meanwhile my main e-mail service (... See more James,

My site host's e-mail service is extremely weak in catching spam. Meanwhile my main e-mail service (IMAP) is really fierce: at most, only 1~3 spam messages per day manage to get through.
Most e-mail services allow you to config for automatically forwarding messages to any other address. Of course you don't want tons of spam sent to your cell phone. Later you can check for any Type 2 errors (rejecting the good) occurred, from your computer.

Next I tried mozilla thunderbird as the poster above helpfully suggested but that hasn't worked either, it said my password is wrong even though I double checked it. I don't know what else to try. Well it was proving beyond me so in the end I paid an I.T expert to try to sort it out remotely for me. I had been trying for a few weeks to sort it out so it was worth it. Now it is working through windows live mail. Now I need to work out how to get instant alerts through my phone.

I'm not sure if you meant Outlook as the software, or Outlook.com as MS email service (formely known as Hotmail), so here are two options.
If you meant Outlook as the software:
You need to create an account and enter your ProZ email hosting details (probably available from your hosting page at Proz). However, please note that the basic storage space of ProZ hosting is only 100MB, if I'm not mistaken, and that's hardly enough if you want to access your email from multiple devic... If you meant Outlook as the software:
You need to create an account and enter your ProZ email hosting details (probably available from your hosting page at Proz). However, please note that the basic storage space of ProZ hosting is only 100MB, if I'm not mistaken, and that's hardly enough if you want to access your email from multiple devices.
For accessing emails from multiple devices you will have to use the IMAP protocol and not POP3. In your phone you should create the appropriate account (again, using IMAP) in the default email app or your email app of choice. Whether or not and how you will get new email notifications on your phone depends on the functionality of the software and how it is set up.
If your meant Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) as in MS email service, than it is a little more complicated:
A domain is like a nameplate asset that you need "hang" (i.e. associate) on different server-based services. The domain is separate from the other services, such as web hosting or email hosting.
In the past both Google (through Google Apps) and Microsoft (through Windows Live Domain) offered the option to associate one's domain with their email - and other - services, but about a year ago they both discontinued the service and are now charging about $5 a month for it.
You cannot just associate your domain with Outlook.com or Gmail.com and have all your email received there unless you subscribe to this service or the Office 365 service in case of MS.
However, you can use a workaround:
1) If ProZ domain management system allows it (it should) create an email forwarder from [email protected] to [email protected]/gmail.com. This will forward all emails to your Outlook.com/Gmail account.
2) On your Outlook.com/Gmail account create an email alias for [email protected] so you could start sending emails from Outlook.com/Gmail as [email protected] instead of the default [email protected]/gmail.com alias. Also make this alias the default so your won't have to select it manually each time.
3) This is about it. The advantage of this workaround is that you have a suffecien storage space, which is crucial when working with IMAP because everything is stored on the server. How to interface with the account, via the web interface or a desktop email client such as Outlook (the software), Thunderbird, Opera Mail, etc., is a personal preference.
The shortcomings is that you "launder" your business email through free email services, with all that it entails - including ads.
Another option it to buy an email hosting service, they are quite affordable nowadays. Namecheap, for example, offers a personal basic email hosting for about $10 a year, and this plan is probably enough for most individuals who just need a reliable email service with enough storage space for accessing from multiple devices.
As José Henrique said, you can also get a full-fledged web-hosting service, that one component of it is email hosting. ▲ Collapse
