What do I do when a proz member wants to be paid up front, takes the money, and then refuses to answer any emails, phone calls, etc, and several weeks later has delivered nothing?

I have worked with scores of translators on proz.com, and this is the first time such a thing has happened. Is there no recourse?

Try these:

Choose one that's close to the home address of the person who stole your money, and choose the heaviest, most threatening-looking one with the scariest website that sets out exactly what they will do if s/he doesn't pay.

In my experience, if you send a non-payer a link to a website like that, giving them 24 hours to pay in full, they pay when they realise what may happen.

Keep us posted Apr 29, 2015

Keep us posted. I just *hate* people who don't pay or who steal other people's money.

Sorry to hear this Apr 29, 2015

Also you could report this to the proz support team. This person should be banned if (s)he does not pay you!

Good luck

Accident or illness a remote possibility Apr 29, 2015

If the person does not react at all, it can't be ruled out that he or she has fallen seriously ill, had a bad accident or worse. Just a remote possibility to bear in mind before definitely labelling him or her a swindler.

I see your point, but in this situation, she went back and forth with me repeatedly saying over and over again that she was "almost done," etc. There were multiple broken promises along the way.
