I have been approached to do a translation of an original work (personal memoir). The relatives of the author have the copyright to that book. What are my rights under US copyright laws to copyright my translation here and internationally? (The memoir has been published in the original language in the country of origin). Worth it or not?

WIPO treaty as well as international perception is that, copyrights are held by the "freelance" translator.
