I have contacted with an agency from the United States, and they ask me to fill a W-9 form. I have previously filled (for other companies) W-8 forms, which are for people from outside the USA, but working with companies based in the USA. So, what is the W-9 form for? Do I have to get a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number)? I am a little bit annoyed, as this is strange for me, so, any help will be welcomed.
Best,
Edu.

Once I was given a W9 form by mistake. You cannot possibly fill a W9 form if you live abroad. Did you tell them that you usually fill the W-8 form?

Yes, I have just received an e-mail from the company telling me that it was a mistake (he did not notice that I am Spanish). I have previously told him that companies from the USA usually asked me for the W-8, but at the end everything is ok.
Thanks a lot for yor attention.
