Dear all, today I got a mail with this reference and the following introduction: "We are a media company looking for translators for presitigous TV channel's listings and telecommunications documents in london(uk). These are distributed internationally." They use a french yahoo!-account. And the sender's name sounds - well ... nigerian (no offence meant ... ). Does anyone know what this is about? Sounds fishy to me... | Aug 23, 2006 |
Hi Susanne, Uhm.... Let's see, they have a French yahoo account, for a company in the UK, and a nigerian name.....Sounds fishy to me... Just out of curiosity I will answer them, and if they start asking for your banking info, I'll simply tell them to go to hell. I usually not even answer to these scams, though...This, at least is my humble opinion. Good luck L.

This is only an opinion, but anyone claiming to be a company with free yahoo-based e-mail sounds suspicious, especially if they say they are a big company in UK and yahoo account is french. Most likely it's a bogus offer, in my opinion.
Presitigous?! | Aug 23, 2006 |
Say you'd be deglithed to cabollorate with them!

Totaly agree with Sophia does not sound serious at all, and what's the name of the " presitigous TV channel's listings and telecommunications documents in london(uk)?" Would not bother to answer.... Alex.

the yahoo address is the only thing that would make me think twice - it may well not be serious, but I think it couldn't do any harm to ask for more details. It might just be a PM with poor English. Or it might be a scammer after your bank details.

for the answers (and the link - I missed this one) Since I switched most of my mails to my own yahoo!-account because they provide a better chance to receive big files I would not be too picky about someone else using yahoo!. And to keep me away from a book review that should be done now ... or then (no, no, I am no procrastinator. Really. The book is a bit dull). I will provide the answer to my request. Well, that's not nice. I send them a very polite e-mail stating that I would love to do some TV-related translations. I provided my best rates (very, very low to see what will happen), I send a cv (well okay, not the latest actually). And now what? They did not answer. Tsass... But now I have to stop my daughter decorating our floors with her bed linen. This effort will be more worth it... See more Well, that's not nice. It's just like those emails from someone proclaiming to be the son of a deposed leader of an African country. Some how he possesses a vast amount of money which he would like to deposit in your bank account in order to get the money easily and safely out of Africa. You get a cut of the money for your time and effort. All he needs is your bank details to move forward. The fact that he says 'God bless you' sixteen times throughout the email is just a little concerning.
