Dear Proz Community

I am currently writing my Masters dissertation on the affect CAT tools are having on the translation industry and I wondered if you could spare a few minutes to help with my research?

I have compiled a survey that will take just a few minutes to complete and I would be interested in your views, whether you’re an expert user or completely opposed to the idea of CAT tools.

You can complete the survey by clicking on the link below. The results are completely anonymous and will only be used as part of my dissertation.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Kind regards

Natasha

Natasha, I can't recommend that anyone take this survey. Sep 25, 2009

Many of these questions are poorly worded and the \"best\" answer is not among the offered solutions. For example: \"In 5 years time, it will be necessary to carry out the majority of translation work using a CAT tool.\" A CAT tool will never be \"necessary\", merely convenient.

Or this one:

\"CAT tools are more beneficial for clients than translators\" That\'s a meaningless question because the answers depend on the particular circumstances. Personally, I benefit because I charge my customers full price and don\'t give discounts, but in other cases that might be true.

In a well-designed survey, the person being surveyed should be able omit a question if there is no suitable answer. I answered many of the questions with "Neutral" but that doesn't tell my true opinion.

Your questions are serious ones about the future of the translation business, and you would probably learn a lot by allowing your respondents to respond in an open-ended fashion. But the way you have structured the possible answers, I'm afraid you won't get much reliable information.
