Clipboard error message in Translation Workspace

Hi there,

when I open MS Word (2007) and log onto Translation Workspace to translate a document, I get an error message stating that another application has locked the clipboard and cannot proceed.

Closing all MS Office applications and retrying for some reason seems to do the trick but this is somewhat annoying.

Does anyone have any idea what's eating TWS and how I can solve this issue? The online documentation and Readme at Translation Workspace offer no help in this regard.

I had the same problem and it disappeared when I uninstalled Wordfast Word plug-in. I don't know if you use Wordfast, but if you do, maybe this is the reason. Or maybe other translation tools react in a similar way?

TWS and Wordfast recognize each other and disable each other smoothly. (note: when working with TWS, Wordfast's context search Ctrl+C stays available!).
But think too that there is something like that, so if the problem persists, check the CATs, but other CATs first. No need to disinstall, just disable the toolbars.

This can be a problem with Skype May 19, 2011

If you have installed Skype and Skype Toolbar, you should remove Skype Toolbar. This will resolve the problem.

Still a problem with Translation Workspace... Sep 8, 2011

Does anyone have the definitive answer to this problem? I've tried all the above without success. It only appeared for the first time on my PC a week or two ago, very odd. Any ideas? TIA, Martin Henderson

Clipboard locked in Translation Workspace, Trados Sep 21, 2011

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but I have the same problem with these CAT tools. I don't have the Skype toolbar or Wordfast. The clipboard seems to be OK for a short time and then gets locked. It's very frustrating and is really slowing me down. I have Microsoft Office Pro 2010 in Windows Vista. I'd be grateful if anyone has any other ideas.

Resolution of locked clipboard problem Sep 21, 2011

Hi,

I've just had this repy from Geoworkz support and so far it seems to have sorted the problem. I deactivated most of my add-ins.

***
In most of the case, problem comes from the fact that the user has 'GetRight(r) Download Manager' or "Adobe updater" software is installed on their machine.

De-activate the application when working with Translation Workspace solves the problem.

If user is using a virtual machine, he needs to de-activate the clipboard synchronization option under the VM additions.

If user is using Parallels Desktop for Mac, he needs to turn off clipboard synchronization via the "Parallels Tools" menu (among his programs in Windows).

This issue can also be related to plugins/addons used by Web Browsers
For Internet Explorer please disable the following plugins
Adobe PDF

Adobe PDF Link Helper

Adobe PDF Conversion Toolbar

SmartSelect Class

Skype

Disabling them via IE Tools/Manage Add-ons should help

For Mozilla FireFox please disable the following Addons

App Tabs

After disabling the addons in IE/FF please restart PC as some addons can be still active

Thanks for your effort Kim, to check this with GW. I encountered the same problem yesterday and couldn't solve it. Based on your data I could (it is either Skype or Adobe Link Helper that caused the problem in my case). This is, however, really a problem that GeoWorkz have to solve. A lot of programs use the clipboard, so it shouldn't be the case that you have to disable one program (or programs) to be able to use another one.

Yes, so far I noticed this with TWS only and they need to find a solution. If they need control of clipboard to work. They should display a dialog showing which application(s) are using Clipboard and whether we want to disable them. It will be nice, if when we close TWS, it shows the dialog again and gives the option of re-enabling the clipboard for those tools.

In may case, I have to close/disable Skype Toolbar and PhraseExpress.

Skype click to call Feb 15, 2012

Skype installed an update yesterday and added the click to call plugin. If you encounter the mentioned problem these days, you might need to deactivate the plugin. It worked here.
