Hello,
In 2006, I made a CAT-tool Isometry 1.0.6 as a windows application.
Now, I am happy to tell you that I developed a totally new version of Isometry.
Isometry 2.0 is a web application.
It searches translation memories and glossaries so fast!
I am sure you like the speed.

Now It only accepts text file.
Parallel Text (TM & glossary & dictionary) should be in a tab-separated format.
The file should be encoded in UTF-8.
But I will work to accept other formats.
And I forgot to emphasize that
Isometry is so fast that it searches TM & glossary every time you type!
This is surprisingly helpful.

I worked today to accept XML file as a source file.
This means Word, Excel and other formats are supported in an indirect way. You can read these file if you select to save them as XML.
Because Isometry 2.0 is a web app, it is very easy to update. You can now access to the updated app.
I want to ask a question.
Will be enough to support XLIFF and TMX file? Or it would be better to directly support Word, Excel, Power Point and other formats?

TMX support would be nice anyway. It would make it possible for translators who use existing tools to supplement their set of tools with your tool.
If you support only XLIFF, then people who want to translate the other formats would have to convert it to XLIFF and back first. Not all people are happy to do that. You'll find more people warming up to you if you support the Word 2007/2010 suite directly.

Fuzzy match is performed on a character basis, not a word basis.
This is because there is a language which do not have a space between words like Chinese and Japanese. It is necessary to analyze sentences to detect which part is a word, so I wanted to avoid it. But this is useful for other languages. For example, in Tagalog, punta is a root word meaning go and pumunta means went. There is 'um' a... See more OK. I'll work to support XLIFF. And in Isometry, matching percentage is not so important.
If the first part of sentence is similar to one TM and the last part of sentence is similar to another TM, then those two TMs are displayed in different colors.
And, in Isometry, there is no distinction between TM, glossary, and dictionary.
This must be one of the key features of Isometry compared with other CAT-tools.
Segmentation is performed using regular expressions (segmentation beginning regular expression and segmentation ending regular expression).
You can change the regular expressions.
I hope you tell me when something is wrong, because I am not familiar with all languages.
Well, the key concept of Isometry is really different.

Indeed. The TMX spec is open and available at http://www.lisa.org/tmx/tmx.htm and there is a tmx validator here.
You can find TMX parsers and generators on sourceforge and CPAN (if you code in perl). Make sure your TMX maker only uses the couple of permitted character references there are, and that your TMX parser is compatible with the , , , and inline elements.

TMX is TM format. XLIFF is another TM (or bilinlual) file format. Word, Excel, Power Point and other formats are possibly source file formats.
I observe development of WordFast from its 1.0 version until 5.9 & Pro 2.4 version now. I suggest you to support with popular formats first e.g. Word. Next, gradually expand to other formats.
If your strong point is quicker TM search even on web-based, your product can be on sale well one day. I suggest you add the "cloud computing," a new trend of computing into your package. This should be far better than existing CAT software available on markets now.

I spent 6 months to make Isometry 2.0. I am serious in developing it.
I read many papers of full text search. I sent an email to some researchers of full text search and asked them which algorithm would be the best for translation memory search. Based on their advice, I implemented fuzzy search engine.

In Isometry, you can select to store translation data in the cloud or only on your local computer, there is a need to remove this restriction. Currently, Chrome Web Store is the only solution.
2. Isometry uses Web SQL Database, which is supported by Google Chrome and Safari. In HTML5, there is an arising new API called Indexed Database, which will be supported in Firefox and Chrome. But because it is a new API, the work is not complete in Firefox and Chrome. So currently, I have to use Web SQL Database in order to store large data.
So, because of some technical reasons, Isometry 2.0 runs only on Google Chrome. ▲ Collapse
