Memoq vs. Trados segment splitting

In comparing both Memoq and Trados, I have noticed that, whilst Trados splits segments after each full stop, Memoq instead seems to split segments after each line break. Why is this?
Memoq's splitting of my ST slowed down my translation as FR and EN have different syntactic structures.

settings for segmentation rules in both tools May 6, 2016

In both tools - MemoQ and Studio - there are settings where you can define the segmentation rules and change which character is used to split segments.
Not sure which versions you use, but in the latest versions (2015), check the help regarding this topic:
In MemoQ, see: http://kilgray.com/memoq/current/help-en/index.html?memoq_help_title_page.html
In Sudio, see: http://producthelp.sdl.com/SDL%20Trados%20Studio/client_en/SDL_Trados_Studio_Help.htm#Ref/A-G/Edit_SegRul.htm
Hope this helps.

merge/join segments May 13, 2016

memoQ has a better "join" function; you can assemble manually the broken sentences; of course, for a large amount you have to attempt the manipulation the segmentation criteria
