Using the modification toolbar instead of a Translation memory

Hello,

I tried TMs and the only feature that seems really interesting to me is the hidden text feature for proofreading my translations. I am thinking of using the "modification/editing toolbar" (I don't know the term in English, but in French it's "suivi des modifications") from Word instead and I would like to know if you think my idea is good or if I should meet problems trying it.
