I am interested in buying some CAT software but the best packages appear to be usable only on PC's. Can anyone point me in the right direction? What about Virtual software?

Thanks

Only if you emulate a PC Jan 29, 2007

e.g. running Virtual PC on your Mac;
see http://www.proz.com/topic/12959
http://www.translationzone.com/sublink.asp?ID=838

But if you want to consider a CAT tool that runs natively on a Mac, you can look at OmegaT.

(OmegaT links in English, Dutch, Croatian, Albanian, Slovak.)

See also OmegaT at Wikipedia for more links.

You should try Heartsome XLIFF, which has a Macintosh version.

Search the forum first! Jan 29, 2007

Hi!

There has been many discussions about this in the past. If you search the forum, the conclusion is that at least Trados (I don't know about Deja Vu?) works fine on Virtual PC, if certain conditions are filled.

Read all about it:

Good luck!

I have been using WordFast on a Mac Feb 2, 2007

... and I think that it is superior to most others. The files I have translated for a company that requires TRADOS have been impressed that the WordFast files work seamlessly with TRADOS and many other CAT processes. WordFast is free to start with and a 3-year license costs about 180 €, so you really can't go wrong with it. I'd be happy to give you some pointers if you need help in getting started.

Best of luck,

Jari
