Trados: Unwanted format change

Hello everybody,

I am working with Trados 6 Freelance (I already bought the newest version, but I didn't find the time to install it, yet).

When I start working with a file I usually define it as German, so I have all the advantages Word has to offer.

When I open a translation segment in Trados, however, my text is usually formated back to the source language. Sometimes, but not always - depending on the contents and length of the text - Word recognizes the German language and changes it after a while.

This has several disadvantages: Auto text doesn't work properly, typos aren't highlighted, spaces are inserted in front of a double point etc. Of course, I know, I can deactivate these features... But that doesn't really solve my problem, I want them, but according to German rules.

Does anybody know if & how I can change this behaviour? I have a macro that highlights all my text and changes it back to German, but I have to do this almost every time I open a new segment, so this is really annoying.

By the way, the same is true for other format features: Font, size etc.

Is there a way to adapt the Trados parameters so I don't have to manually correct all these things again and again?

Elke

Setup Jul 12, 2007

Hi Elke,

I had a similar problem with an Arabic context translation recently. I managed to solve it in Workbench by going to
File -> Setup
Then on the General tab making sure the correct Target language was selected. (strangely mine wasn't, even though the correct language had been chosen when the TM was created..)
Then under the Fonts tab select the Target font you want to use. I actually changed the Source font to the same as the Target font without any trouble, but it might corrupt some of the Source characters?
Hope that helps!
All the best
Owen
