Dear colleagues,
I've found some hints on online dictionaries/glossaries which are good for some specialised subjects.
What would really boost productivity though (and save valuable space on the desk!) would be to have general, widely used dictionaries in digitalised form, ie on CD or as a software solution.
Eg: the standard Chinese-English / English-Chinese (or in my case -German- respectively) dictionaries, general dictionaries on technology/business eg "German-English-Chines... See more Dear colleagues,

Eg: the standard Chinese-English / English-Chinese (or in my case -German- respectively) dictionaries, general dictionaries on technology/business eg "German-English-Chinese Polytechnical Dictionary" which is one of my commonly used ones, or "English-Japanese-Chinese Dictionary of Industry and Technology" etc.
Any suggestions?

This is my understanding:
What ever perceptible data or media by human's major organ (听觉:音乐,视觉:文字/图画/动画) that can be recorded on a readable disk/diskette by machine (hard disk or CD disk head).
In the future, even perfume (smell 味觉) & taste of each dish (味觉+口感) can be digitalized too.
Organs in here refering to: 眼, 鼻, 口, 嘴 (舌), 人体感官功能

A lot of students and others in Taiwan use a package called "Dr. Eye", which isn't TOO bad (although the good doctor does have his idiosyncracies!!) You can set it up to be a pop-up or for manual look-up of terms.
A friend of mine sent me a lovely package from the Mainland -- can't remember the name, but it had loads of technical dictionaries EC on it. Unfortunately, for some reason it wouldn't install (even though it was a legal version.) Still haven't figured that one out.

What I would like in a searchable CD-ROM is my Encyclopedia Americana in Chinese...I think it might even exist, but I haven't had a chance to run it down yet. It would be depressing after having paid for the hard copy set, though! But it's lovely on the shelf, and there's something about having the actual printed characters on the page that's nice...if you're not moving around much, that is.

Thank you for your attention and your reminding. I use NJStar now , some un-unicode mixed with Unicode HTML, that is why. But, if you use Occidental encoding, there will be no problem for viewing. I like very much NJStar, but sometimes I do not "maîtriser" it yet.I will try.

OK, Chance, now I see what happens. Yes, just like you, I prefer NJ Star to Twinbridge. The reason why I am currently using neither of them is that I like Word 2000 (Chinese) best of all...

thanks for your suggestions. I'll try to get that "Dr. Eye" or "Jinshan Ciba" next time I get to Taiwan or China.
I may find others just like I bought all specialised dictionaries I could find.
As for online glossaries/dictionaries I found a comprehensive collection of relevant links: www.lexicool.com, that you all might know of already anyway.

As much as I know Taiwanese: French likes perfumes (Faces or dignity), British likes intangible assets (stock market..etc), and American is thinking to take them all
So, how to compromise it? How to please them all ?
