A person thinks the following:

他想:「天氣是不是好?」

In good Cantonese I would have thought the following:

他想:「天氣好不好?」

Do both expressions mean the same? Are they equally good substitutes? Is the former Mandarin and the second Cantonese?

二者的意思一样 Aug 11, 2003

Same meaning, but the latter expression is obviously better.
As you may know, in Cantonese, they speak 好唔好 instead of 好不好.icon_smile.gif

第一句有点别扭。 Aug 11, 2003

“天气是不是好?”这句话语法是对的,但语气很难模拟,很难找到合适的场合来说。

稍作改动,“天气是不是很好?”就自然多了。

ぱ估? Aug 15, 2003

ぱ? is OK.

But Hong Kong people simply say:

ぱ估? or
ぱ估? or even
ぱゼ? It depends on the context.

After all, we use fewer words. We are minimalists.
