按照中文characters算字数, 到底是“字数”,还是“字符数(不计空格)”呢?请同行指教。

感觉应该是字数。字符不计空格一般都是奸商翻译公司蒙客户用的,翻译公司给翻译一般不会按这个算

其实我也觉得按“字符数(不计空格)”不太可能,翻译公司哪有那么大方的。
在以中文、日语或朝鲜语为母语的人眼里,character既可以表示字符,也可以表示字数,甚至表示“中文字符和朝鲜语单词”。如果供需双方都是中国人还好,能讲清楚;倘若不是,译者有时会感到相当迷糊。

Word里面的字数是包括汉字和标点,不包括空格、数字和英文字母的。很多人因为方便就用Word的算法,但我曾经有个客户要求不算标点,用他们自己的软件来算字数。每个客户你就问他一下,以什么字数为准,然后可以按需调整费率。

汉字的字数统计也包括英文、数字、括号等。连在一起的外文、连在一起的数字,或连在一起的外文、数字、半角符号的组合,不管多长,只要中间没有空格(比如一个网址),都算一个字。外文、数字、半角符号的组合中如果出现汉字或其他全角符号,这个汉字或全角符号及其左右的字符串都单独计算字数。以方括号中的内容为例:【2010年】算两个字;【John Smith】算两个字;【John&Smith】算一个字;【John与Smith】算三个字;全角的半括号算一个字,如【(1)】算三个字,【1)】算两个字;而使用半角括号的【(1)】和【1)】都算一个字。
