按照中文characters算字数， 到底是“字数”，还是“字符数（不计空格）”呢？请同行指教。

感觉应该是字数。字符不计空格一般都是奸商翻译公司蒙客户用的，翻译公司给翻译一般不会按这个算

其实我也觉得按“字符数（不计空格）”不太可能，翻译公司哪有那么大方的。
在以中文、日语或朝鲜语为母语的人眼里，character既可以表示字符，也可以表示字数，甚至表示“中文字符和朝鲜语单词”。如果供需双方都是中国人还好，能讲清楚；倘若不是，译者有时会感到相当迷糊。

Word里面的字数是包括汉字和标点，不包括空格、数字和英文字母的。很多人因为方便就用Word的算法，但我曾经有个客户要求不算标点，用他们自己的软件来算字数。每个客户你就问他一下，以什么字数为准，然后可以按需调整费率。

汉字的字数统计也包括英文、数字、括号等。连在一起的外文、连在一起的数字，或连在一起的外文、数字、半角符号的组合，不管多长，只要中间没有空格（比如一个网址），都算一个字。外文、数字、半角符号的组合中如果出现汉字或其他全角符号，这个汉字或全角符号及其左右的字符串都单独计算字数。以方括号中的内容为例：【2010年】算两个字；【John Smith】算两个字；【John&Smith】算一个字；【John与Smith】算三个字；全角的半括号算一个字，如【（1）】算三个字，【1）】算两个字；而使用半角括号的【(1)】和【1)】都算一个字。
