Dear Friends,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to you all for your participations, enthusiasms and efforts that made 2005, the Year of Rooster so wonderful (Well, the bird flu was horrible, and I hope all the birds are safe now.) We all got one year older, but our knowledge and experience also increased along with it, and most importantly, I hope everyone also got richer. When you are so busy with making money, please do take good care of your own health. I will do the same. My New Year resolution will be to go to bed earlier each night.

As I did in the past years, I designed an eCard and posted it here, which carries my best wishes to you all. Hope you will like it. How can a New Year celebration be complete without a greeting card from me each year?

2006 is a dog year according to the Chinese zodiac calendar. Speaking of the dogs, let's talk more about them if you are interested. I suggest that we should list all the dog-related sayings and expressions in both Chinese and English languages. If you can provide the translation along with it, that would be superb.

I heard people often saying that dogs are the best friends of men, well, I guess in this case women, too. Many of my American friends love dogs so much that the dogs are treated like their family members. However, I noticed the dogs are not so respected in either English or Chinese languages. It seems to me the dog-related expressions are rather derogatory. Here are some examples:
1. “The imperialists and their walking dogs” (I think this one came from China) =
2. “You cannot teach an old dog a new trick.” =
3. “Son of bitch” =
4. “With wolf's heart and dog's lung” =

Do you see my point? I hope we can come up with some better ones, and make a good list of them.

Have a great holiday season!

Kevin
