Was just thinking... what if we hold an online Chinese POWWOW through MSN/Yahoo Messenger? We can see and talk to one another (if chance is in, I can finally find out if she/he is MS or MR). All we need to do is to fix a time and a date, comb our hair, put on a nice blouse/shirt/tee, switch on the webcam and HELLOooooooooooooooooo!! Anyone interested?

Yes, certainly I'm delighted to do that even if I don't have a webcam. I 'll put on a nice jacket or my Sunday's best.

I don't want to use it, because it always distorted my "本以不算英俊的脸"。:)

However, MSN/Yahoo seems to be too slow. Skype provides a great platform for such conferences. Why not try it? - Wenjer

[Edited at 2006-04-28 18:21] Then I will have the perfect excuse to buy that long overdue Creative webcam By the way, I have never used this beast before, so can sb tell me how many webcam windows we can open using MSN?If we have 10 participants, can we open 10 windows, one for each? Also, Is the 'talking' text-based or audio-based? I can't imagine 10 persons talking at the same time though. Cheers, P.S. Got to start cleaning up the room and throw all those ‘闲书’out before they appear on the webcam
redred China Local time: 17:27 English to Chinese + ... This idea is fantastic and creative! Nobody would think about it. | Apr 29, 2006 |
Some people especially youngsters who are keen on on-line chatting via a webcam, but, usually, the webcam would do distort the face rather than add beauty to someone that it is very terrible.

We can even have an online CONFERENCE!! Get a few people to present something, have a little workshop, and so on so forth. And if this goes well, we can turn it into a monthly or bi-monthly event. That should make it worthwhile for you to buy a webcam. @Wenjer: I think the latest version of Skype has the audio/visual function. @Shaun: Sho... See more

就算解決了LOGISTICS 的問題,時差是 ISSUE. If we come up with a time and date, let's do it. Then, I'll take some personal days or, perhaps, sick days. Hope my boss and my wife won't mind.

Let's fix a date and time then boys and girls! I think Yahoo Messenger is a good choice. MSN doesn't support conference or probably won't support multiple camera views. I have an old LogiTec cam that is 5 years old. The image must be misty, but better than none. So you can see how pale I am right now, recuperating from a bad flu. Hey, let's fix a date or fix it in the powwow schedule. We can't let good ideas slip!

Otherwise, we may let our angel down and miss an excellent networking opportunity. Thus, we decided to hold an online Powwow at 2 PM or 10 PM on May 13 or 14 Beijing time. We are not sure whether the above time is suitable for all people. if this is an unearthly time for you and you do want to be a part of this Powwow, please give your proposal. we may adjust the time based on the requirement of the Majority. if no objection is heard, the Powwow will start at 2 PM May 13 Beijing time. We may use Skype or Yahoo as the platform. An online test will be conducted to see which one is better before the formal Powwow. in this case, several volunteers are needed for such test. All guys who are interested in this Powwow, please email your Skype or Yahoo ID to me or leave it here after we formally annouce which platform to use. for those who don't have either Skype or Yahoo ID, please visit www.skype.com or messenger.yahoo.com to get yours. should any better idea come up into your mind regarding online Powwow, please share it with us.

I just checked SKYPE and Yahoo's online help and found that SKYPE support conferences of 5 people only and Yahoo messenger doesn't support voice conference at all (only text conference). any solution is welcome.

Donglai Lou wrote: I just checked SKYPE and Yahoo's online help and found that SKYPE support conferences of 5 people only and Yahoo messenger doesn't support voice conference at all (only text conference). any solution is welcome. Right, that's a problem! Skype doesn't support more than 5 persons. However, there must be a way, if you really want to hold a conference. Probably, we have to split into groups for several stages of a conference.

In that case, what about a pure text-based powwow? I am sure all of us can blind-type fast enough. Just an idea.
