You may need to re-install Windows | Dec 14, 2002 |
Uninstalling Microsoft software can be notoriously difficult. You may have to re-install Windows.
I had the same problem before; I had Chinese-language enabling \"Richwin\" on my computer, and foolishly downloaded IME. It \"interfered\" with Richwin\'s functioning, particularly on the Web or in e-mail, when --- apparently --- the default switches to IME. I found, however, that I could get around this by:

1) Starting Richwin when I turned on my machine. This tends to \"override\" IME. Turning on Richwin or similar programs once IME has \"booted in\" is futile...
2) When there is a conflict, leave all programs, re-boot Richwin.
I\'m not a computer freak, but now I DO UNDERSTAND WHY SOME PEOPLE HATE MICROSOFT.

If you are running in Windows XP or ME, try to use System Restore by going to Help and Support > Undo changes to your computer with System Restore. Pick one restore point prior to the new software installed and run restore.
Hope it helps. | | |
Speaking of input... | Dec 15, 2002 |
Anybody know of a way (besides the system called \"Natural Input\", which seems to bring me coding problems) to get a Pinyin input for traditional characters? Sometimes I seem to get it but usually not, and I can\'t stand bopomofo.

I know it\'s quite good for 简体, and there are some coding bugs for 繁体. (For example, the full stop generated in 繁体 may not be exactly the same as the full stop under a Microsoft-sanctioned input method.)

I\'ll check out the links you\'ve posted and see if that helps. I\'m ready to throw the \"Natural Input Method\" (zi4ran2 shu1ru4 fa3) out the window. I think it\'s the reason why my input gets messed up a lot of time, including sometimes adding a whole bunch of garbage Chinese characters to posts. When I un-install it, things seem to go smoothly -- but I can\'t function in Taiwan without traditional characters, unfortunately...

You can use PinYin to input 繁體字 with Traditional Chinese \"New Phonetic\" input method, just like you use Simplified input mothod. The only difference is that New phonetic (新注音) allows only full spelling (全拼).
Here is the procedure: Go to START > Control Panel > Regional Options.
Select \"Input Locales\" tab and then click on \"ADD\" button.
Under \"Input Locale\", select \"Chinese (Taiwan)\" and under \"Keyboard Layout\", select \"New Phonetic\" (新注音). After 新注音 is added, select it and click on \"IME settings\" button. This will open the property dialog box with several tab pages. Click on \"鍵盤輸入對應\" tab and select \"羅馬拼音\".
Then you can input 繁體字 using 漢語拼音 just as you would inputting 簡體字.
上面的這幾個繁體字就是這打達出來的。

Hi Terry,

Hey Terry,
We meet again! But don\'t worry, I\'ll try not to stink up your territory here too much.
I think you can download the New Phonetic input system. Do a Google search for 更稬硁穝猔 and see if you can\'t dig it up.
Ciao
