When I open DITA xml files in DV X, the sentences appear to be badly segmented. The variable don't appear. There is just a space where the variable should be but I can't see what variable is being used.
Does anyone know how to handle conref variables correctly in DV X ?

Have you tried that option when importing the file? Or would it be an option to alter the XML filter?
Or, since you also use Trados (as I see from your other posts), maybe just turn it into a TTX file and import it into DVX as such. This will most certainly work, as long as you do not forget to pre-segment the file with Workbench.
