Is there a way to convert Trados Multiterm (5.5) databases into DV3-compatible .tdb files?
I am afraid there is not, but maybe there is a wizard out there with a magic wand...

You can use a small .mdx file that you can download from the DV Yahoo group. I can send it to you if you provide me with yout e-mail address, along with the necessary instruction. I have been using this procedure since some years now and it works very well and swiftly.
