Sad but true Feb 2, 2004

I quite agree. Over the past couple of years I've also had to lower my prices to avoid being frozen out of the market (living in the UK). Some companies are willing to pay more than others, but price seems to be the overriding factor in a large number of cases. Some experiences of attitudes demonstrated by agencies have made me feel as though we professional translators are perhaps no longer valued so much as seen as servants who will respond to a click of the fingers. Doubtless not true in all cases, but my view of the translation industry has changed. Just as well I see my job as a service to help others, but I nonetheless don't feel respected as a professional in the way that I used to.
Maybe I sound pretty cynical, but I do still enjoy doing translations. I just think it's a pity that effort is not always recognised, and I can't help but think that the quality of the industry could suffer if translators decided to put in less effort - an idea I've heard expressed before - because they were being insufficiently compensated (I don't include myself in such a category).
Good luck and keep smiling!

Husk:

billigt agency Feb 9, 2004

Du har ret i din observation mht billige oversættelser or kvalitet.
