We arrived from UK into France and have a question. How can we obtain health insurance in France? What are the steps ? Our company is registered in Ireland, we lived for 18 years in the UK (NHS)and are Germans. Who can advise us ?

Best regards,

First step is to obtain a SSN Jan 8, 2004

Hello, and welcome to France.
First, you need a SSN, even if you are an EU citizen. You should go to your local Social Security office where they should be able to give you a list of the documents you will need to provide.
Then, as far as I know, as soon as you start paying into the system (through your employer or directly if you are self-employed) you are covered.
For those who don't have employment-based coverage, there is something called "universal" coverage, but I am not sure how that works.
You may also wish to purchase supplementary insurance, usually called a "mutuelle" as SS only covers a portion of certain things and very little on things like dental and eye care.
Good luck!
